Notes from 3.6.08 meeting:-

The group’s objective is to provide teaching to expand our knowledge and understanding of our faith, and to give us confidence to proclaim it; commending God’s love to the world.

This would be accomplished by organising teaching sessions, which will commence in the autumn.  Some will be led by the clergy team of the parish, but some will feature outside speakers.  Initially, there will be three in-house sessions, one each in September, October and November.  During that three month period there will also be a guest speaker.

In advance of this course, an explanatory leaflet will be sent out to all members of the congregation, inviting them to say what questions they wish to ask about faith and doctrine.  It is realised that some people may be embarrassed by their lack of knowledge in certain areas.  It will be emphasised that no question is ‘too simple’, and questions may be asked anonymously.

Some sessions will be designed for parents and children.  We are also considering the possibility of Sunday lunchtime sessions with food included.

When planning is a bit further advanced, we may be approaching the PCC for funding to cover educational resources and expenses for outside speakers.

Notes from meeting on 15th July 08

The Group met on 10th July to discuss the next stage of planning and two points raised by the clergy. Recommendations have been made.

The Group feel that now The Mission Action Plan has been given to the Bishops at Caritas it should be published and given with a verbal explanation to the Congregation at all services.  We would like to send a leaflet to the congregation inviting them to share a subject they would like to learn about on faith and / or doctrine.

We hope to be able to start these teaching sessions in September.
